COVID-19 UPDATE: Eased restrictions and What These Mean at Mass

The Queensland Government’s recent easing of coronavirus restrictions has had positive impacts on a number of services and ceremonies held at The Cathedral Parish of St Joseph.

A significant change includes the allowance of 200 attendees at weddings and funerals. Please note that at the present time, current restrictions on the Sacrament of Baptism will continue to be observed until advice has been sought from Queensland Health.

Another major change is the amount of persons able to attend mass at one time. With social distancing being halved from 4 to 2 square metres for organisations that have a COVID Industrial Plan, our churches are now able to increase their capacities. This has meant that roped off pews in the Cathedral are now able to be used again. Please note that the 2 square metre can be observed by allowing the space of another person between yourself and someone not from your household sitting in the same pew.

While the reducing of restrictions is exciting, we ask Parishioners to remain vigilant by way of maintaining appropriate distance from other parishioners and frequent washing/sanitisation of hands.

Please note that current communion procedures will still apply to reduce congestion in the aisle. Furthermore, parishioners are still required to register their attendance at all masses. We recommend using the website www.cposj.com to skip the queue at the door.

We thank you for your understanding.
